Staff at Valley View Independent School District in Pharr, Texas, spent the weekend sorting out a cybersecurity problem that disrupted parts of the district’s computer and phone systems. Classes are still in session, and officials say students and staff remain safe.
In an email sent to families, the district said it was “experiencing a cybersecurity incident” that affected its technology network. No details were given about the cause, and it’s unclear if any information was exposed.
Teachers have kept lessons going while IT staff work to restore normal operations. Families were asked to watch the district’s website and social-media pages for updates as repairs continue.
Valley View ISD serves several campuses in the Pharr–Hidalgo area near the U.S.–Mexico border, with district offices located on South Jackson Road.
Cyber problems have hit other Texas school systems this year. Uvalde CISD shut down for several days in September after a ransomware attack disabled phones and payroll, and the nearby City of Mission reported a similar event earlier in the year that locked city servers.
Valley View officials haven’t said when all systems will be back online but noted that restoration work is ongoing.
