Haileybury College in Victoria says it was the target of a cyber attack in October.
Principal and CEO Derek Scott confirmed there was “a malicious attempt” to access the school’s systems, which was detected and contained quickly.
“Our cyber response plan was triggered right away, with help from external specialists to manage the situation,” Scott said.
The school believes the intruder only had limited access to its network. An investigation is underway to learn what data, if any, was viewed.
Scott said cybersecurity has been a long-term focus for the school. “We take digital safety seriously and review our systems often to stay ready for any issues,” he said. “The protection of our students and staff remains our top concern.”
Families and staff have been informed and will receive updates as more is learned.
Founded in 1898, Haileybury runs four Melbourne campuses, a Darwin school, a partner school in China, and an online campus. It teaches students from early learning to Year 12 and had around 4,500 enrolled last year.
So far, no threat actor has taken responsibility for the breach.
