A former Gloucester, Massachusetts police officer has been sentenced to four years in federal prison after investigators discovered over 200 files of child sexual abuse material on a USB drive found in his home.
Alexander Aiello, 34, was identified as a registered user of a dark web platform dedicated to distributing CSAM, according to a Department of Justice news release. The hidden site enabled users to download, view, and share explicit content depicting minors.
On April 28, 2025, federal investigators executed search warrants at Aiello's residence, seizing multiple electronic devices including a laptop, cell phone, and a USB thumb drive recovered from a bedroom nightstand. Analysis of the USB drive revealed more than 200 files consistent with CSAM.
Forensic examination of Aiello's laptop uncovered software designed to provide anonymous internet access and connectivity to dark web hidden services. Investigators found evidence indicating the device had been used recently to download illicit material.
Aiello pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography. In addition to his four-year prison sentence, he will serve five years of supervised release following his incarceration.
